Alpine Linux has completed their migration to SourceHut for their mailing lists 🎉

They're running their own instance here:

LISP is like if the person responsible for the RPN calculator went on to write a programming language. The thing is, that’s kind of a compliment.

Note to self: In addition to explicit rules, Nginx might also give a 403 error because it doesn’t have permission to access the requested file

I’m a software engineer by trade, but did my undergrad in electrical engineering. I’ve never had to learn LISP before. I think it’s time to change that.

Seriously question—and I feel a bit naive for having to ask—but is there any advantage to Guix versus any other distribution’s package manager? The literature all makes it sound revolutionary, *but it’s a package manager.*

Is it the commitment to packaging only free software? Because that’s great, but it’s not unique either.

Oblivious in Orlando

Looks like we’re settling into the standard weather pattern for summertime in Orlando. About 90 degrees. About 50% chance of rain, usually in the form of an afternoon thunderstorm.

I’m grateful to my brother-in-law for introducing me to grilled bacon. I’ll tell my grandchildren about this day.

Full disclosure, the new sidebar is pretty much cribbed from @sir, but it works a lot better than what I had before. I’ll “make it my own” over time.

Just redesigned my personal website, dumped the landing page in favor of a more traditional blog format, and toned down the colors. What do you think?

If anyone works in NYC, or knows someone who works in NYC in tech and is hiring please hit me up 👍

Please boost.

Nobody asked, but here's the right way to do the whole "giving out slides" thing (except maybe with more image descriptions)

Generated using better-keynote-export

"On 10 April, astrophysicists announced that they had captured the 1st ever image of a #blackhole.

No headlines mentioned that the image would have been impossible without open-source software: #Matplotlib, a #Python library for graphing data.

Just 5 days later, the NSF rejected a grant to support that ecosystem, saying that the software lacked sufficient impact.

#opensource is widely acknowledged as crucially important in science, yet it is funded non-sustainably."

Secure boot probably wasn’t strictly necessary, but I got it working and I’m glad I did
